A downloadable game

This game was made for the GamesPlusJam 2021! It is a 2D Platformer about Mt. Better-Than-Everest, a new mountain formed due to the shifting of the tectonic plates. It is 25% taller than Mt Everest, hence the name. A bounty goes out: The first person to scale the mountain will receive $1,000,000 as a reward! You play as Jack, who will tackle the challenge of scaling the mountain along with your partner, Kelsey.

This is our first time doing a Game Jam. Criticism of any kind is welcome and appreciated.

I really liked your game. its fun. But I couldn't see some lower part of your game.

For a first game , it's pretty good !

I have a big list of things to say about it tho:

  1. Some mechanics might be a little clunky , like the wall jump that activates even on the ground, it can even be used to skip half of some levels !
  2. The gravity is a little too linear , maybe it's because it's a mountain and the wind goes up or because it's just too low , but it almost feels like we can fly.
  3. The rope mechanic can throw the player really high , and when there is spike up there , you do not want to be thrown right at them , so we have to be really careful and spend 5 minutes spam clicking upward to have a chance of surviving.
  4. The viewport is a little too squarey , but maybe it's just because my monitor is not very big, so it cuts off a part of the level and even the lower half of the dialogues.
  5. The cinematics and the dialogues are quite good , i love how the mood between the Jack and Kelsey slowly change throughout the course of the game.
  6. I never did python games so i do not know if it's because it's in python but the game is not very animated and feels a little stiff.

Overall , for a first game , i would say it's a success !

Great story , gameplay not too hard to understand , and little cinematics across the way makes it really good.

Thanks for playing our game! All of those issues could have been fixed, and I thought about fixing them on the 27th, but I figured I didn't have enough time. I should have integrated a variable window size, and I should have spent more time in the beginning tooling the controls to make it feel good to play. I added in a mechanic where if you hold the jump button you stay in the air longer, but I guess I didn't tune it correctly. Thanks for spending the time to play it!
